Photo of the Day: Winter Wonderland

Today's photo is in honour of the complete dumping of snow we got yesterday here in the D!  It was taken several years ago in downtown Rochester.  The Paint Creek was mostly frozen and covered in snow so I took the opportunity to go play on the ice with my camera.  For this particular shot, however, I was standing halfway up the bank looking down onto the ice.

Photo of the Day: Shadow Tracker

This photo was taken on one of my inspired winter walks.  I love capturing tracks in the snow, but even more than that I really loved the shadows in this shot.  Seemed an appropriate shot to post given the amount of snow everyone seems to be getting lately (bunch of wusses in these parts I might add, it's as if the entire Michigan population has had a massive collective bout of amnesia and doesn't realise they have faced winters MUCH MUCH MUCH worse than this in the past and managed to go to work, school and drive perfectly fine...)  Hope you are all cozy and warm and can enjoy the beauty that comes with the snow instead of focusing on the inevitable slush to come!!

So this photo was taken last winter but I love it.  We got dumped on and I was feeling ambitious and playful, so I took Micah out into the snow to have some fun.  I brought my camera along for a few shots before putting it safely away and then just romping around in the snow, but I got this one of Micah running toward me and really loved it.  Hope you enjoy!

Photo of the Day: Winter Walk

I love a nice snowy day where the wind is down and the sun is out and I have time to run around with my camera :o) I took a short walk the other day with my mum and the dog and took some shots around our neighbourhood. I love these fences to begin with, add a fresh layer of snow and good lighting and I'm a happy little Shutterbug!

I have decided to add a "Photo of the Day" feature to my blog. It will let me share my photography with whoever reads this thing, as well as give me a moment of zen every day as I decide which photo to post. (I find photography very calming when it's on my own terms)

So today as the first day of my "Photo of the day" (shall I say day a few more times?) here you go:
I took this photo when I was at Michigan State living on campus. It was the first really big snow we'd had, and the campus looked fantastic. You would not believe how many of us just brushed the snow off our bikes and still took them to class... but enough for a cool pic didn't bother :o) This photo always brings back really good memories for me, coz I spent most of the afternoon out in the quiet new snow shooting... I love quiet new snow.
